Project Showcase: Custom Concrete Fireplaces

Even though we’ve been making precast concrete fireplaces for over twenty years, we still enjoy innovating. When clients bring unique or challenging ideas, we do everything possible to make them happen. Today, we want to show off some recent fireplace projects that helped us push our creative limits.

Semi-Reeded Statement Fireplace in Tones of Gray

Semi Reeded 5 Piece Concrete Fireplace

For this project, we covered an elementary brick fireplace with a concrete surround to suit the home’s modern interior. The trick was to combine multiple elements: a raised hearth, a decorative reeded finish, and a sculptural geometric mantel. The fluted dark concrete draws the eye towards the flames and emphasizes the tall windows and walls in the room.

Floor-to-Ceiling Fireplace and Chimney Surround

Floor to ceiling concrete fireplace and wall panel

This project juxtaposes classical elegance with gothic beauty. We used bright white to play up the size and drama of the fireplace, taking the precast concrete pieces up to the beamed ceiling. The mantel draws inspiration from a traditional design style with gently curving sides and a three-tiered ledge.

Similar detailing is repeated at the crown molding level to pull the interior together. We finished off the white chimney surround with an inset segmental arch design that follows the vertical lines of the fireplace itself.

Modern Double-Sided Fireplace in an Industrial Style

The task was to design an ultra-modern statement fireplace for an airy, two-story living room. The client wanted a double-sided glass fireplace to suit the open-concept floor plan of the home. We raised the firebox off the ground to create a floating effect matching the nearby staircase.

Then, we covered the chimney in precast concrete panels with cone ties for an industrial edge. The simple gray color adds to the raw, unfinished look, contrasting with the polished finish of the other walls. In this way, the fireplace surround becomes a feature wall on both levels of the room.

Fluted White Concrete Fireplace With Curved Sides

We wanted to create something elegant and timeless for this living room fireplace. The concrete surround protrudes from the wall and becomes a mantel without a separate shelf element. The inner edges curl back gently to reveal the firebox nestled under the top ledge.

All the inner corners are rounded to give the design a graceful and delicate look and feel. The rounded edges also help to accentuate the fluted finish. We chose white concrete to let the geometry shine.
