At Sculptural Design, we’re all about helping our customers make informed architectural decisions. Here’s a list of frequently asked questions about our concrete cladding panels to support interior designers, architects, and property owners in their design journey.

What are concrete cladding panels?

Concrete cladding panels is a non-structural building material placed over interior or exterior walls for architectural design purposes. Our concrete panels are made from glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) – a mix of Portland cement, aggregate, water, alkali-resistant glass fibers, polymer, and additives.

Can you use cladding indoors?

Yes, you can use concrete panels as interior wall cladding. Our slim and lightweight panels enable ease of installation in any space including hard-to-reach areas.

Is concrete cladding waterproof?

Concrete wall cladding is water-resistant and suitable for interior and exterior use. Our GFRC panels have a 10 – 15% water absorption rate, but we can treat them for applications where lower absorption is preferred.

What colours do concrete wall panels come in?

One of the best things about concrete is how customizable it is. By adding pigments to the mix, we can change the colour of the final precast concrete product. Our concrete cladding panels come in eight neutral colours: natural white, bright white, antique white, halo, natural grey, silver grey, pewter, and charcoal. Custom colours are available upon request.

How do you install internal wall cladding?

The installation process for concrete wall panels will differ depending on the manufacturer. We recommend working with a professional cladding installation company to ensure high-quality work. Installation is included in our concrete design and fabrication service at Sculptural Design.

How is concrete cladding attached to the building?

Builders typically use a framework between concrete panels and the building’s original wall to securely affix the cladding to the structure. At Sculptural Design, we use a combination of strapping, screws, masonry clips, and chemical fasteners to install exterior and interior wall cladding.

How do you style a concrete wall inside?

Styling concrete is about bringing out its natural beauty! To decorate a concrete wall, consider installing mood lights highlighting the material and adding leafy plants to add a pop of colour. Read our room-by-room concrete decorating guide here.

How to hang art on a concrete wall?

To hang heavy artworks on concrete walls, you will need masonry screws. These are suitable for hard materials and come with a plastic expansion plug that ensures the screw sits snugly in the wall. Consider adhesive picture hooks or hanging picture rail systems if you don’t want to drill into your concrete.

What interior design style uses concrete?

Concrete is versatile and can blend into any contemporary interior design style. For example, you can use large format concrete panels in natural grey for an industrial look.
