Personalize Your Kitchen with Custom Range Hood Covers

Image

Range hoods have graced kitchens for over 100 years and still perform an essential function—keeping the air clean. They remove smoke, catch grease, and prevent moisture build-up that can lead to mould and stale odours. Unfortunately, despite their importance, range hoods aren’t always pretty.

A range hood cover can help disguise the steel contraption above your stove. A concrete surround frames your hardest-working appliance, coordinating it with the interior design theme.

Why Concrete Makes for the Best Range Hood Covers

Concrete is one of the most versatile building materials. It can take on almost any form to suit many design styles and has become a highlight of modern kitchens. Here are three reasons to choose a range hood cover made from concrete:

  • Heat-resistance: Concrete is non-combustible, making it exceptionally fire-resistant. This property is a considerable benefit in kitchens where safety is the top concern.
  • Easy to clean: Architectural concrete is sealed and treated to make it non-porous, so it doesn’t absorb moisture or develop stains. With proper care, chips and cracks are rare, and they don’t hold fingerprints or require constant polishing.
  • Customizable: Concrete lends itself to custom range hood covers that don’t conform to standard dimensions. We can cast concrete in almost any shape, expanding design possibilities tremendously.

Design Options for Concrete Range Hoods

Traditional Kitchens

Concrete comes in natural stone colours to complement a traditional-style kitchen. Warm neutral tones like antique white or pebble grey pair beautifully with farmhouse cabinetry and rustic wooden floors.

A traditional range hood cover is usually mounted on the wall above a cooktop or stove. It typically hangs from the ceiling, extending down the wall behind the stove. Some incorporate cupboards on either side, while others attach to surrounds halfway down the wall or mount directly to the workspace. Using concrete, we can cast ornate, decorative shapes to surround your stove in classic or vintage kitchens.

Contemporary Kitchens

Concrete can also be contemporary, with charcoal, cool white, and silver grey offering a modern look and feel. A box-shaped, polished concrete range hood cover without supports on either side suits minimalist kitchens with stainless steel appliances and clean lines.

Custom-made range hood covers also house LED lights, which illuminate the primary cooking area and add ambience to the kitchen. They might also sit within an expanded feature wall decorated with concrete cladding.

How are Concrete Range Hood Covers Made?

At Sculptural Design, we make custom range hood covers to order. The first step is measuring the area above and around your stove, taking precise measurements to create a wooden mould. Once the mould is ready, we mix and pour the concrete, vibrating it to remove bubbles and letting it cure for at least three days.

Then, we remove the mould and seal the concrete to protect it from wear and tear. Finally, we’ll install the completed range hood cover in your home and complete the project neatly. For more information or to get a quote, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
